In this project, we evaluate the unexpected erosion problem in the “intuitively” slow speed region. With the aid of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), we could reconstruct the case and get a deeper insight about the flow detail, and finally find the counter-intuitive phenomena which became the root cause of the erosion. With that result, we can suggest the best modification to prevent the same failure in the future.
How we solved it
We use the Reynold-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) method to model the flow and evaluate the near wall shear stress and flow to calculate the erosion. open source CFD code, openFOAM was used in this study.
