Wind turbine structural analysis
Using Finite Element Method to optimise wind turbine design
Using Finite Element Method to optimise wind turbine design
A few details
Wind turbine can suffer a very high structural load due to its aerodynamics load, it’s own weight, or the centrifugal force from the rotational motion. The weight load and centrifugal load are highly dependent on its design weight distribution of the blade, beside the proper material selection, composite skin thickness and blade structure design are highly crucial to reduce the overall weight without sacrificing its safety. Both material selection and structural design can be conducted using Finite Element Method (FEM), moreover, using this method, we can also evaluate it’s natural frequency and buckling characteristics of the skin.
How we solved it
In this study, we use the Reynold-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) method to model the flow and evaluate the near wall shear stress and flow to calculate the erosion.
We provide engineer-to-engineer solutions, from CFD and FEA project supports up to training and project consulting since 2013.
