Pelton water turbine simulation using CFD
Using Computational Fluid dynamics method to evaluate hydrodynamics and free surface flow characteristics
Using Computational Fluid dynamics method to evaluate hydrodynamics and free surface flow characteristics
A few details
Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), we could model the torque and power generated by a pelton water turbine caused by pressure distribution, friction at the wall, and even the free surface wave easily. In this simulation, openFOAM CFD software with Volume of Fluid multiphase solver was used to simulate the multiphase phenomena between the rotor and water-air interface.
How we solved it
In this study, we use the Reynold-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) turbulence model and utilising multiphase Volume of Fluid model to simulate the flow and evaluate the hydrodynamics and wave characteristics.
