Valve flow simulation using CFD
Using Computational Fluid dynamics method to evaluate pressure drop and flow characteristics
Using Computational Fluid dynamics method to evaluate pressure drop and flow characteristics
A few details
Valve design is very critical step in the product development process, we should consider its reliability to open and close the flow, on the other hand, we must consider the pressure drop caused by valve installation, which is sometimes much larger than the pipe pressure drop itself. One common method used to design valve quickly, more flexible, and cost-effectively is by utilising Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. In this case, openFOAM CFD software was used.
How we solved it
In this study, we use the Reynold-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) turbulence model to evaluate the pressure drop and detailed flow characteristics inside the valve.
